By: Oze Parrot

The mention of India brings to mind the cobra, snake charmers, and bewitching seers. For the traveler who is seeking excitement and Adventure there is also another side to this, the second most populated country in the world. Yes, India is an Adventure Travel Destination filled with many exciting travel activities to pursue.

India is the world's seventh largest country, covers 3.1 million square kilometres, has a coastline of over seven thousand kilometres with a population of well over 1 billion people. India is located in south Asia, bordered by Pakistan, China and Nepal, the northern border is part of the Himalayas. The countryside consists of mountain ranges, plateaus, tropical rain forests and sandy desert areas.

The mountains are an ideal Adventure Travel Destination in India, as there are a number of exciting activities available there, including heli skiing, river running, mountaineering and trekking. These Adventures are conducted by professional guides however if you want to do a bit of abseiling, snow skiing or trekking on your own then the choice is yours.

The north Indian rivers, being in the mountain foothills, present themselves as a collection of the best white water rafting venues in the world. There are several Lakes in the Kumaon region and also The Ganga with upper tributaries, the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi that are world acclaimed by white water rafting enthusiasts. There are many lakes in the Kumaon region that are ideal for kayaking.

Another Adventure Travel Destination in India is the idyllic seaside state of Goa, where the calm waters provide a sanctuary for divers, swimmers and sunbathers. The marine life of Goa is similar to that found in Maldives. There are many sunken wrecks of Spanish and Portuguese galleons as well as World War II ships in the waters off Goa making it a haven for a large variety of fish and presenting the marine diver with many exciting areas to explore.

India is home to one of the seven wonders of the world, the Taj Mahal at Agra. No visit to India would be complete without inspecting this awesome structure.
