Tips For Adventure Travelers

When you have decided to take an adventure travel vacation, it’s time to do some research and make a few plans, so that you are able to deal with any unforeseen circumstances that may crop up. When you are out of reach of your home zone you must be prepared to cope with adverse weather conditions, breakdowns, accidents or medical emergencies, otherwise your adventure could turn into a nightmare.
If you are going to travel overseas, make yourself aware of any rules and regulations pertaining to tourists that apply in the countries you intend to visit. Also steer clear of any country that is experiencing political unrest or rebel groups that are carrying out terrorist activities. This type of information can be obtained from the country’s embassy. Your travel agent will advise you on visa requirements, make sure that you get contact details for your country’s embassy in the countries that you are traveling through, in case you need assistance.
The adventure travel activities that are the most exciting can be extremely dangerous, so make sure that you have access to a substantial first aid kit and have adequate offshore medical insurance that will cover the major share of any medical or hospital costs that you may incur while overseas. Medical costs can be financially crippling if you are not covered by a comprehensive medical insurance policy.
If you need to take prescription medication, as many people do, get a written authorization from your doctor before leaving home and keep it with you during your travels. Anti drug laws are quite severe, even extreme, in certain countries, and your prescription drugs could be illegal in those countries. Don’t mess with recreational drugs in other countries, because being a foreigner you are vulnerable, and the risk of prosecution is not worth the reward.
Most of all, when you are on your journey or in another land, make common sense prevail. Don’t take unnecessary risks, get along with the locals and abide by their laws and customs. Take good care of your travel documents. Stolen passports and credit cards are in great demand, and identity theft is becoming ever more common, so don’t let your personal documents out of your sight. Be wary of street vendors, hawkers and pick pockets. When going out at night it is best to go with a group, stay in well lighted areas and keep away from dubious venues.
